In general, your entitlement to dependent care ends when your decree is final. The Government views a Veteran's dependents as a form of legal obligation, as well as family. If there is no longer any legal obligation (for example, your kid turns 21, etc.) then the definition of dependent for legal purposes no longer applies. The entitlements are for the Veteran and his legal dependents - once you cease to be a dependent, you're no longer entitled.

That doesn't necessarily mean you're not entitled to a portion of his retirement income though. It will depend entirely on your divorce settlement terms. For example, a friend of mine divorced her husband, an FBI agent, about 15 years ago. She's entitled to half his retirement when he's eligible as part of their settlement.

How do I get tricare I am a disabled veteran?

you should have tricare if you are a vet. If you are old enough to get medicare, tricare for life is the insurance that is usually attached. Get online and tricare.com I belive that not all vets have tricare. You receive Tricare benefits if you were retired from the military (either medically or due to time/age). You would have a retired ID card and that is your Tricare medical card as well. If you think you are eligible you can contact tricare by calling 1-800-tricare and you will be directed to the necessary region. I hope that helps. My husband and I were both medically retired/disabled and have tricare insurance. But friends that are considered disabled by the VA only do not get the same benefits. I am basing my response on personal knowledge and experience. Best Regards,
