I just got a 4 week old rat and she has sneezed ever since she came to my house?

Our new baby rat had the same problem. He sneezed for a week since we brought him home. We visited the Vet and was told that the rat may be sensitive to something in his new environment (our home) but finding out exactly what it is would be difficult.

However, the Vet prescribed our rat a course of antibiotics and after 5 days he is sneezing less. He still sneezes occasionally but we think he is getting better.

Something important to remember is that rats should not have sawdust or woodshavings in their cage and to use paper based bedding or cat litter to line their tray. Rats easily suffer respiratory diseases so it is important to see a Vet as soon as you hear your rat's breathing become difficult or make a rattling sound or nose become red.
