Can you fail a pre employment urine test if you have a prescription for Xanax and are taking it?

While Xanax can be tested for, it generally is not part of the standard lab testing package unless your PO is specifically concerned about that drug in particular or if the terms of your parole dictate that you should not be taking it. Because they are prescribed to such a large number of people for stress and anxiety to be taken for extended periods of time, benzodiazepines such as Xanax, Valium, Ativan, etc, are generally not tested for.

∙ 12y agoYes and no. If you have a prescription for a controlled substance and you fail a drug test you have 48 hours to prove the prescription is legit. If you work with machinery or drive at work or in the medical field and you fail the drug test your employer can suspend you until its out your system usually 3 days or make you go home but 9 out 10 if you have a legit prescription you should be ok.

∙ 13y agoNo, you cannot fail the urine test if you show proof of your prescription before the screening is done. You MUST have proof of the prescription.
I just had a pre employment test done and I have prescription for xanax and never took anything else but was tested positive for oxazepam and I did not get the job.

∙ 14y agoWell...that all depends. If the job requires you to use heavy machinery, fly an airplane, or any other task that requires full mental awareness then my guess would be yes. However, I am sure that if you took the company to court and could prove that is the reason why they didn't hire you, you would win. After all, the medicine was declared medically necessary by your physician. This is just a guess though. Call your doctor and ask.

∙ 7y agoIt will if you're not supposed to be taking it. If you have a legitimate prescription and actually need it (not just taking it to "chill out" all the time) then just bring your prescription with you to the test to show them.

Of course they can. Just telling them that you're taking it doesn't mean you're getting it legally.
