Approximately 40% of University of Utah students are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church). The Mormon Church itself has no influence over the school, but there is a large Institute of Religion across the street from Huntsman Center which provides religious classes, worship services, and activities such as dances and parties. The Institute is open to everyone, and many Mormon students choose to participate in the Institute activites rather than the school-sponsered activities.
