Changing color when snow falls
pretty neat -basically a preacher from Ct, while visiting the area of Trenton NY around 1802 first recorded the falls as he discovered them. He returned to set up a congregation in Trenton NY. He later started an academy near the trails to the falls. Around 1806 Joseph Bonapart (Napolean's brother) donated the money to blast a trail to the falls. Since there have been resorts at High Falls, and the Trenton Hotel which stood under different owners for over 100 years and was finally demolished in 1945 when the roof collapsed. The Trenton area benefited from tourism to the falls for many years -however the expansion of the railroad systems into the upper Adirondack regions diverted tourists to other parts of the state. Since then, there have been pipelines set up, and the water has been utilized for hydropower. It has been run by several companies for hydropower over the years and is currently run by Brookfield Power. This company has designated trails and informational points along the trails, and opens the trails to the public a few weekends a year. There have been many over the years that have partied, and played in the falls. There are reports of deaths due to diving and other swimming accidents. This is part of the reason that the falls are no longer open to the public year-round.
