This would be the most optimal route and the best logistically for the plane to travel. A polar route would reduce distance due the curvature of the Earth, and it is much safer to use a polar route, because it would significantly increase the amount of land that the plane would fly over and significantly reduce open ocean flying. Finally, to answer the trick question - the Arctic Ocean.
