You are probably hearing the beginning of detonation. This can be damaging to your engine so I would have the timing checked and corrected to avoid any engine damage. I do agree with your answer, but the op was pretty vague as to how loud the lifters get. It is common for cheap gas to cause the "popcorn" sound as well.
bad lifters will rattle when engine is running at idle you will hear anything from clicking in engine to rapid tapping, depending on how bad and how many lifters are bad if vehicle has hydraulic lifters check for proper oil level in cngine

Too little oil makes lifters noisy. Without enough oil the lifters can't pressurize enough to close the gaps in the valve train. Driving too long with the condition can make it permanent even after adding more oil.
wrong viscosity oil, bad oil pump, bad hydraulic lifters,or loose tappet rockers
faulty lifters at the best will rattle, at the worst they will not lift the valves properly . valves not opening and closing properly will greatly interfere with the proper running of the engine.can also cause a push rod to come loose and fall into the engine, breaking or bending other parts
The possessive form for "the rattle of the snake" is the snake's rattle.
If your lifters are sticking you can try some oil additive like Marvel Mystery oil Marvel Mystery oil has been around for a long time and it works pritty good.
no but its most likely your catalitic converter get under the car and bang on the cat it will most likely rattle the inside is broke
What is making the rattle sound? If it is a rattle-snake, the rattle is to warn anything the rattle-snake believes is a danger to the snake, to keep away.
The baby shook his rattle. That was spooky enough rattle your bones.
