I have had a similar experience with a 3 ft lilac bush. It is (still alive and coming back!)
Rather than a lawnmower trim, it was pruned to about 6 inch height after a large
tree limb fell upon it and destroyed most of the branches. This occurred about two
years ago and now and is approx 2 ft in height. The new growth branches are spreading
naturally. (Zone 5 for your reference.)
"Lilac" in English is lillà for the plant and lilla for the color in Italian.
a skunk is a mammal and a lilac bush is a plant. In addition, a skunk's scent is considered offensive and the smell of a lilac bush is sweet.
Are lilac bushes acid loving plants OR DO THEY NEED ALKALINE FERTILIZER

Could be lilac.
While MOST flowering plants and shrubs give off seeds ... one has to be SUPER-DILIGENT to find them on a lilac bush. The best way to find Lilac bushes is to either take hard-wood cuttings from old growth or TRY to take out a "sucker" plant from a main plant? It's not easy, but with careful digging, one CAN get a "sucker" plant that might survive, depending on how you treat it, where you live, the humidity, the soil ... you name it!!
See: http://www.gardenaction.co.uk/plantfinder/lilac-syringa_2.asp April: Feed your Lilac Tree. Scatter a couple of handfuls of bonemeal around (but not touching) the base of the plant and cover with a mulch of well-rotted compost.
