No you don't but you will want to. Some individuals do not have to have theirs removed but most do as they become impacted, decayed etc. If he is recommending it be done and you don't do it it can cause more than just a sore mouth problems for you - a bad tooth that disperses toxins or poisons such as they are get into your system and can make you very ill in other ways. It would be in your best interest to have it done - feel lucky I personally had all four removed at once and they had to remove bone to get them out as they were not nearly even ready to come in but causing me problems - now older I am so glad I had them done then. Good Luck - its not that bad.

Generally this work is performed by an oral surgeon.
Wisdom teeth usually begin to surface during young adulthood, between ages 18 and 22. Oftentimes, dentists will tell patients with surfacing wisdom teeth that they need to be removed, since wisdom teeth can crowd existing teeth by forcing them to scrunch together.
Wisdom is forever. Once wisdom is within you its really hard to get it out.
They use a curved handle so they could see our "wisdom teeth" in the way back.
Yes! The orthodontist I saw growing up would pull 12 year molars, leaving room for wisdom teeth to grow. I had my 12 yr molars pulled when I was a tween and my wisdom teeth came in around my early 20s. I have never had a problem with them. Not sure why all dentists don't practice this - my only thought is that it dentists make more $$ for the surgery.
Dentists perform wisdom tooth extractions. Most dentists will perform them in their own surgery but in the case of more complex extractions, it may be necessary for the patient to attend a dental hospital.
It is extremely difficult and is a medical procedure. Only dentists or other licensed persons should perform this operation.
