Follow the officer's instructions, they take precidence over traffic controls such as stoplights or signs. This applies to a uniformed public safety official performing traffic control, thus might be a firefighter, etc, instead of a police officer. FOLLOW me on instagram @merakiy

Assuming you are asking if you are directed through the intersection by a police officer, or other certified traffic control person (TCP), you must obey the direction of the person, not the light. There is generally a reason for the person to be directing traffic (traffic accident, light system problem, etc). The person, not the light system, is now responsible for controlling traffic through the intersection and must be obeyed. The lights are no longer controlling the intersection and may be ignored while the officer or TCP is directing traffic there.

Keep in mind that the person may not see everything, so be sure everyone is watching the same officer or TCP before entering the intersection - specifically, watch out for pedestrians or cyclists and vehicles approaching from behind the person.

How do you beat a failure to stop at flashing red light?

You really can't. There isn't any excuse, like possible missing a speed limit change, or being clocked incorrectly. If the officer saw you go through the intersection without stopping you are pretty much stuck. Now if the officer couldn't see you when you were stopped at the intersection, say you stopped 5 or so feet back from the line and were behind a building, you might be able to contest it. But if he couldn't see you, chances are that you couldn't see whether it was safe to proceed, which would be about the same penalty wise.

What is controlled intersections?

Controlled intersections have traffic lights, yield signs or stop signs to control traffic. At a controlled intersection where you face a green light, drive carefully through the intersection at a steady speed. If the light has been green for a while, be prepared to stop when it turns yellow. However, if you are already so close that you cannot stop safely, drive through the intersection with caution. Where you face a red light, come to a complete stop and wait until the light turns green. When you approach an intersection on a main road, and the intersection is blocked with traffic, stop before entering the intersection and wait until the traffic ahead moves on. This does not apply if you are turning left or right. At a controlled intersection where you face a yield sign, slow down or stop if necessary and wait until the way is clear before driving through the intersection. At a controlled intersection where you face a stop sign, come to a complete stop. Drive through the intersection only when the way is clear (Diagram 2-15).

Can a police give a ticket for non stopping in a gasoline station to buy?

If it appeared to the officer that you did it to "cut the corner" thereby avoiding having to stop at a red light or stop sign at that intersection, then YES! The ticket will be for running the light or failure to stop at a stop sign. He will also give the same ticket for pulling through a parking lot (no gasoline station there) without parking in the same situation.

Can you receive a ticket for stopping at a green light?

If there is a cop present, and you have stopped and have not moved, than yes, you can get a ticket. Should a police/law enforcement officer be present, they would most likely activate their flashers or loudspeaker to inform you that there is a green light and you must proceed through the intersection. This is not a ticketable offense, however, if you should fail to react, they may stop you to test your Blood Alcohol Content or for illegal substances.

On a greenlight it is illegal to?
