If your regular payday falls on a federal holiday when do you get paid?
In the US, if you work for the federal or state government or are retired from the government you should get paid the day before. If your pay would normally be direct deposited on Friday the 4th of July then your pay should be deposited into your account on the 3rd. If you get your pay by a check then you still should get it before the 4th.

I believe that would depend on your company's policy and whether or not a union is involved, but the company policy would dictate that.
Congress can only designate holidays for government offices and employees. The US does not have any "national days" as other countries do. Also, the government can't force any state to observe a particular holiday. There is only one religious holiday that is a federal holiday, Christmas. Some claim …that it is because of the separation of church and state. (MORE)

May 08 - With gas prices doing what they are...and it being political campaign season... some candidates have suggested the federal gasoline excise tax (which we consumers don't really see, which like a sales tax just becomes part of the price we pay at the pump), should be discontinued for the summ…er. Hence reducing the amount we pay for gas. Interestingly, many politicians, economists, etc., don't think it is a good idea. The amount is relatively small (save the average driver something like $50) over time, and the amount generated is used specifically for building roads, infrastructure, etc., which is seriously needed....and when done helps the economy itself in many ways. It depends on which country are you living in. It also has to do with the fact that Easter is a "religious" holiday, as well as Christmas and technically Thanksgiving. The difference with Christmas being Paid- holiday and Easter not being paid is for the simple fact that Easter is a christian celebr…ated event to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ , thus the Government cant submit to one religion, therefore Easter Day cannot be labeled a Federal Holiday (MORE)

There could be any of a number of reasons why you did not receive your pay on your regular pay day, some of which are shown, below. Regardless, you should ask your boss, payroll, human resources, or union liason, in that order, about it:. 1) Someone needs to discuss something with you, and holding …the check was the best or only way they had to communicate with you.. 2) The government has garnished your wages, although, normally, you would receive at least a check stub indicating such, and it is rare that the government would take 100% of your check.. 3) There was a holiday or other company-wide day off which temporarily shifted the regular pay date.. 4) The check was inadvertently given to someone else.. 5) You owe the company money, so they took it out of your check (again, it is rare that they would take 100% of it).. 6) You did not work during that payroll period.. 7) You quit or were laid-off or otherwise terminated and do not have any more checks coming to you, or they were mailed to your home.. 8) You asked your company to "direct deposit" your check to your bank, which, in many cases, does not give a check stub.. 9) The check was not printed for some reason.. 10) The check was misplaced. You have paid holidays because it is part of your religion that you have to be home on those days. Your company can not punish you by not paying you on the days that your religion says is a holiday. There are two federal holidays in the United States in January: New Year's Day and Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birth day (often erroneously referred to as Martin Luther King Day). However, this does not mean that the two holidays are observed (as time off for federal workers) in January. (Read below c…oncerning when New Year's Day is observed in December.) King's Birthday is observed on the third Monday in January, thus it can occur anywhere from January15th (the actual anniversary of his 1929 birthdate) to January 21st. The New Year's Day holiday occurs on January 1st itself unless that date occurs on a weekend, in which case the holiday is observed on the nearer weekday ( i.e. Saturday, January 1 is observed on Friday, December 31 and Sunday, January 1 is observed on Monday, January 2). It should be noted that, since not all federal employees work Monday-Friday, for some workers holidays can be observed on the actual days of the week on which they occur. (MORE)
