This is a rather common problem of many writers, and is perfectly normal. Simply no one can always have a great idea on hand, and ideas dwindle as the need for a profound, more intense story is necessary as the writer develops skill. Oftentimes, I find that typical "advice" helps me zero percent, and oftentimes just puts me in a state of confusion and disparity. The key is this: don't go searching for a story, let the story find you. Do you want to be that poor desperate fellow who takes up a mediocre idea and dies with nothing, or will you be patient and wait for a wonderful idea to blossom within you in time? Simply, go about life with a fair amount of daydreaming (Car rides are excellent for allowing to let ideas flow as the landscape whizzes by, but I would not recommend this if you are driving) Never force ideas unto you! This is a large mistake, and do not be the one to commit it! Another way to get ideas is to create a character. A fascinating character with spew forth stories. Don't use ideas that aren't yours, your heart and soul will never show through and it will serve for a humdrum story. One final remedy: just begin to write. Forget about the circumstances, take a deep breath, do not force yourself, and write. Get lost in the words, simply take a random path. Step out of your comfort zone and jump into the rabbit hole, maybe you will find wonderland. Take these steps and I am sure you will one way or another!
