In Pygmalion what does Alfred Doolittle's transformation into a married gentleman mean regarding the question of social class?
It means that the TV's aren't exactly the size stated. e.g. a 42" class TV isn't exactly 42" diagonally, so they round the size to the nearest whole inch and call it the… "class". So a 42" Class set could be 41.8" or 42.1".

All LCD TV's aren't exactly the size the ads say they are. A model may be advertised as 42" diagonally, but could be 41.8" or 42.1." Then they advertise it as being in t…he "CLASS." Measure yourself to be sure of the actual size.
Compare and contrast the apparent transformation of Alfred Doolittle into a gentleman in act 5 with Eliza's transformation into a lady?
Alfred Doolittle did not actually transformed into a gentleman. He only succeeded in the physical aspect of becoming a gentlemen.Even after gaining a fortune he still clu…ng to the ideas that opposed the morality of the class in which he was thrown. His ideas, morality, manners, and also his speech could easily give away his place of origin. In simple words, other than his money, nothing else qualified him as a gentleman. While Eliza's case is just the opposite. Eliza adopted the manners, accent, morals, and everything that qualified her as a "duchess". But unfortunately, after the completion of her education, she had no means to sustain herself in that sophisticated class and after experiencing the better way of living, there was no way that she could go back to her older lifestyle
the social class mean is a working class for example teacher's nurse etc.
Historically, a gentleman was a man born into a noble or royal family. In modern times, a gentleman is simply a man with impeccable behavior and good manners.
The concept of the nineteenth-century Gentleman is a complex one, though it is one which is, as one recent critic has noted, "the necessary link in any analysis of mid-Victori…an ways of thinking and behaving." The Victorians themselves were not certain what a gentleman was, of what his essential characteristics were, or of how long it took to become one. Why, then, were so many of them so anxious to be recognized as one?

How does the author's use of dialogue contribute to the readers understanding of social class in the play Pygmalion?
In the play Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw, he uses different dialects in the dialogue to show social status because one dialect is given overt prestige while the other …is given covert prestige or is known as a non-standard language. The dialect known as the standard dialect is typically used by the upper-class while the non-standard dialect, the Cockney dialect spoken by Eliza Doolittle in the beginning, is associated with the lower class. Overt prestige is a linguistic term describing the prestige given to people who decide to speak the dialect that society deems the standard. In the play, Bernard Shaw has Professor Higgins speak the standard English in London while the student he takes on, Eliza, speaks in the Cockney dialect, which is considered the dialect of the lower class since the area that speaks that language is generally lower class. Because there is covert prestige present in the play as well, the prestige given to a person who speaks the same dialect as the non-standard group, you can tell what type of standards are used to categorize people into different social classes, one of the main standards being the dialect of English they speak.
