Its shocking for most people, but Islam is a complete way of life and Muslims live their lives based on what the last messenger of God taught them.
And Islam is not about 'what people do' or 'what people think', Islam is about 'what is right' or 'how it should be done'

Birthdays are not allowed because they were not a practice during and after the time of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him); Islam commands the Muslim not to imitate the non Muslims and follow their beliefs or traditions.

Nothing per Quran and prophet Muhammad (PBUH) teachings said against bithday paries. If the birthday party is done within Islam teachings and rules (eg no alcohol serving, no forbidden sexual acts or excitements, ...) it may lead to more solidarity and good relations among Muslims
