A Huey was a general purpose helicopter. Its proper designation is Bell UH-1 Iroquois. (Prior to 1962, it was called HU-1, hence 'huey'.) About 7,000 were used in Vietnam, initially for medical evacuation, and soon used for nearly everything else - troop transport, air mobile assault, observation, supply, gun platform, anti-tank TOW missile carrier, rescue ... everything possible. Later models used a two-engine design with a 4 blade rotor, doubling the lift capacity. When used to transport troops, up to 15 people can be inside the machine.
