a million times in one seconds ___________________ There are several distinctive earth movements and this is surely not a complete list. Earth rotates on its axis. Earth also wobbles on its axis, the way a top wobbles when you spin and release it. Earth orbits the sun. Earth's orbit is perturbed by the movements of other planets. Earth's elliptical orbit precesses very slowly (From the perspective of the distant stars, the ellipse of Earth's orbit actually rotates.) Earth and moon revolve around their common center of gravity, called their barycenter. Sometimes massive geological movements (like the quake that initiated the devastating tsunami of a few years ago) will actually change the earth's movement slightly. Earth is following the sun in the sun's vast orbit around the center of the Milky Way. Tidal forces between Earth and Moon are causing Earth's rotation to slow very slightly.

Two. It rotates on its axis and it revolves around the sun. ______________ There are some others. The earth's axial rotation is not perfectly oriented without any movement of the axis. There is complex movement of the axis caused by something called precession. Imagine a toy top spinning on the floor. The top stays basically upright, but the top of the top will describe a loop as the top spins. There are also perturbations in the earth's orbit caused by other planets as they get nearer and farther away. The earth's relationship with the moon brings about some interesting movement. The earth and moon really orbit around each other; the earth is not perfectly still with the moon doing all the orbiting. The earth and the moon orbit around their mutual center of gravity, called the barycenter. Because of the differences in mass, the barycenter is always within the body of the earth. So observed from above, we would see a kind of curling or wobbling in the earth's orbit that would be in synch with the moon's orbit of earth. There is also the precession of earth's orbit, and this is not easy to describe. The simple version is that the earth's orbit is an ellipse. You can draw a line connecting the two foci of the orbit. That imaginary line is actually turning slowly, relative to the stars. There is also change in motion that can be caused by things like tides, and even tsunamis. The great tsunami of a few years ago caused a small but measureable change in the earth's motion. The whole solar system is also orbiting the center of the Milky Way, along with all other objects that are part of the galaxy. And of course the Milky Way is moving relative to the other galaxies and star clusters. There may be some other earth movements as well.

The Earth spins like a carousel one turn each day, and travels in an elliptical orbit around the Sun every 365.24 days. The Sun itself is moving, orbiting the center of the Milky Way galaxy, and our own galaxy is probably moving as well - every other galaxy does, and ours is nothing special.

But because there are no "preferred frames of reference", there is no way to know if anything is moving, except in comparison to other objects. We see the Earth moving in comparison with the Sun, and the Sun moving as compared to the galaxy.

What direction do stars move each night?

In reality, each star has its own "proper motion", but the stars are so far away that no human lifetime is long enough to notice any motion. But the Earth DOES move, and we live on the moving Earth. Not only is the Earth moving in its orbit around the Sun, at about 66,000 miles per hour, but the Earth also is spinning, once per day. It is the rotation of the Earth, and our positions riding the Earthly merry-go-round, that make it SEEM like the Sun, Moon and stars are moving. Because the Earth spins west-to-east, the appearance is that the stars move east to west.

How many months does a pregnancy last?

Why does a spacecraft does not burns when it move from earth to space but it burns while returning from there?

When a spacecraft goes into space its speed increases dramatically once it leave the earths atmosphere. When it is returning to earth, it hits the atmosphere at a faster rate than it was traveling when it left. The friction of the atmosphere against the craft, heats it up.

How does the sun and the moon move across the earth?

umm... the sun does't move but the earth orbits the sun once a year and it rotates on its axis once every 24 hours this causes night and day. The moon orbits the earth i think :)

Why do you have days months and years?

They are just 'natural' time periods. The Earth orbits the sun once a year. The moon orbits the Earth roughly once a month, and the Earth turns on its axis once a day !

Does the sun move around the earth once every year?

No, the heliocentric theory states that the Earth revolves around the Sun once each year.

How does energy from the sun cause earth air to move?

It doesn't. The earth would continue to move even if the sun stopped shining. Once something is in motion like the earth, it continues in motion unless something stops it

Do the earth's continents move?

The continents are situated on top of tectonic plates which float on the Earth's magma under the crust. This means that the plates move about, which means yes, the continents will move but it will be very, VERY slow.
