Southeast Asia is Vietnam and its surrounding countries (Lao, Cambodia, etc.). Japan & China have traditionally been called the "Far East" (Far Orient). With all of the new terms people want to make in this century (e.g. Middle East/Southwest Asia, etc.)...Northeast Asia for Japan sounds fairly accurate. After all, Northeast of Japan is Alaska and the North Pole.
