Kopa doesn't exist in canon as is evident from the film makers's commentary track on the DVD. He is only in the fanfiction children books, and even in them, Simba doesn't banish him. Nothing fatal happens to Kopa in those books.

∙ 13y agoBecause he is not an official character made by Disney but only made up by fans, who got their fanfiction childrens' book series to become profit among many others whose storybooks' contents contradict the books where Kopa is. Disney ignored them and thus Kopa's character when continuing the official story which is the movies. Also, the cub in the end was never intented to be Kopa while making the film or at any point afterwards, which is evident from the commentary track of the DVD release wherein the film makers call it "Fluffy" and do not give it a gender. In its own movie the cub remains genderless with no real name but the most official identity to it is the girl Kiara from the only official movie sequel which makes no references to siblings for Kiara. In short; Kopa was never intented into the movies and he was officialy ignored by all film makers, because he was written by fans into the book universe only.

∙ 10y agoIn "The Lion King II: Simba's Pride," Simba's young daughter, Kiara, meets a fellow young lion cub named Kovu. Kovu is the son of Zira, Scar's widow. Simba knows this when the two cubs meet, so Simba tries to keep them apart. Zira is filled with anger about Simba killing Scar, and Simba knows that Zira would try anything to get at him, even if it meant using Kovu to get to Kiara.

But when The Lion King II came out, and Simba had a daughter instead, fans wanted to know-- what happened to Kopa? Disney has never come up with an official explanation other than the fact that they decided to go a different direction and give Simba a daughter. So is Kopa real? I don't think anyone really knows. ;-)
