Winnie felt like running away because she felt like she always had to be the center of attention between her grandma and mother. She also felt that she couldn't be herself around her folks. So in conclusion Winnie just wants to be independent besides someone else making her decisions.

Because everything at Winnie's house has to be perfect, there are no mess-ups. And Winnie is tired of that. Not to mention that she thought the toad thought she wouldn't do it. :) Hope this helped!
