For all practical purposes, the Great Depression began on Tuesday, October 29, 1929. This is usually considered the actual beginning of the Great Depression because of the disastrous effect on the national economy. The huge losses in stocks and bonds forced many companies out of business. This caused job losses. Then banks began to fail. All of is linked back to the 1929 Stock Market crash.
