Answer replacement windowsThere are two basic kinds of replacement windows. One you remove the sash and stops from the inside, the new window is inserted and screwed in place through the sides. Then you trim it on the inside a needed. The other kind has a nailing flange. You remove the entire window, outside trim, everything the window is set in the hole and nailed in place all the way around. With this type you will need to make sure there is a moisture barrier between the wall and the window. On older houses this is probably tar paper, on newer ones it may be a plastic sheet. If this is intact, caulk all the way around the window opening on the surface, set the window in the hole, making sure it is level and nail in place. Trim the window inside and out as needed.
