Al Gore is not now, nor has ever been a scientist. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Government from Harvard, briefly attended Vanderbilt University Divinity School (1971-1972) on a yearlong Rockefeller Foundation Scholarship for students planning secular careers. He later admitted to never wanting to be a minister, and later admitted that he had hoped to make sense of the social injustices that seemed to challenge his religious beliefs. From 1974-1976 he attended Vanderbilt University Law School, leaving in 1976 without a degree to run for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The Nobel Peace Prize was given to Al Gore and the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) for their work in bringing public awareness to the theory of human responsibility for a warmer planet.
"The climate crisis is not a political issue, it is a moral and spiritual challenge to all of humanity," Gore said. " It is also our greatest opportunity to lift global consciousness to a higher level." The honor was given to Gore and the IPCC "for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change," the Norwegian Nobel Committee said in its statement this morning in Oslo.
