Being a Christian means that you believe in God, you believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God and died on the cross for your sins, and that if you repent, or ask for forgiveness, Jesus will forgive your sins.

The eternal punishment of sin is death. God believes that you should be holy, god-like and sinless as he is. This is completely impossible since humans are sinful creatures. God is so good that he sent his only son to die on the cross to save us of our sins. In the moment of his death, Jesus felt the weight of all of our sins on him at once. We should not feel bad about Jesus's death because he rose from the dead three days later. This showed everyone that he was in fact the son of God. Now when we sin, we can pray to Jesus and ask for his forgiveness.

When you have prayed and asked Jesus into your heart and know that he is the son of God, you will be saved. Being saved means that you will go to heaven when you die. Unsaved people will unfortunately go to Hell after death and spend eternity with Satan.
