This is a valid question. Just because Israel is a land "flowing in milk and honey" doesn't make all honey (or milk) kosher. I'm not sure of the answer, but it could be complicated.

If the brand is certified as kosher by an accepted organization, it is kosher. You would need to check for a 'hechsher', a marking, from one of those organizations on the packaging.

Kashrut (kosher laws) prohibits the consumption of insects (except for certain locusts), which includes food products made of them such as cochineal colouring. Additionally, Kashrut prohibits the consumption of anything excreted or otherwise coming out of the body of a non-kosher animal or insect, such as milk and eggs.

Bees, of course, are not kosher. Once upon a time it was thought that honey is just processed by bees but that it doesn't actually come from chemicals produced by their bodies. For this reason the Talmud permits honey. (Bekhoroth 7b) However, nowadays we know scientifically that this is not true - honey is secreted by bees after the polin has been mixed with enzymes produced by the bees. Logic dictates, therefore, that honey should *not* be considered kosher.

Since it's been eaten since Biblical times, though, it would be hard to convince observant Jews to stop using honey.
