Learning a language is not hard, it just takes a long time. It would take about 50 to 60 days to be fluent in Japanese. And you have to keep at it.

Recently I learned the Japanese language in just 40 days by the help of Japanese alphabet flashcards from Carddia.com. You can try it.

Yes - words like tv, computer and coffee, etc, are from America so sound American even with Jap pronunciation -There is a pattern to every grammar structure, easy to learn. I recommend looking up Tae Kim's website with Google and there's a massive list there, starting from easy basics -Motivation can be kept really high by watching anime such as Full Metal Panic, Bleach, Naruto, Death Note, Ouron High Host Club, Inuyasha <3, Full Metal Alchemist, etc. That's my excuse, anyway. Watch the Japanese versions and learn some slang. --- What I like to tell people is that it's not as hard to learn Japanese as most people believe it would be. There are no masculine or feminine words to worry about, irregular verbs can be counted on one hand, and conjugations are straightforward and easy to learn. Grammar can be a challenge at times, but with the proper effort and motivation, it should present no more problems than most other languages. Really, it's not so difficult to learn to speak Japanese. The truly difficult part is learning to speak -like- the Japanese; the language is inextricably linked with the culture, and there are many occasions where you could say something entirely grammatically correct but contextually and situationally -wrong.- In this respect, I must say that Japanese is a difficult language to master. You may learn to speak flawless Japanese, but without properly understanding the cultural nuances, you will never speak true Japanese. ---

Its as easy as you make it. Don't, I repeat DON'T learn Japanese through anime. You will be hindered on not knowing how things work, grammar wise. There are many nuances that they don't explain well in anime, like how girls should talk, how boys should talk, and how to speak in the varying degrees of formality.

Start out taking a class. If you can't afford a class, teach yourself as if you are in a class. Buy a text book and start reading. Quiz yourself. The internet is a great resource, but it doesn't beat having the material in front of your face in a book. Check out some pod casts that are designed to teach Japanese. Japanese-Pod101 is an excellent resource. They have a 7 day free trial on the whole website. Listening to native Japanese speakers and listening to different scenarios help a great deal. As far as the language goes, it is much more streamline than English. There are set rules to things, and very few irregular rules. Once you know the rules of tenses and positives and negatives, the rules work for almost all verbs. Grammar is only difficult for English speaking people because it doesn't follow the same order. Once you get the hang of it, it becomes easier. Japanese, like any other language, becomes easier the more you work at it. If you put in the effort, the real, solid effort, to learn the language, you will be surprised at the progress you make. I've been studying Japanese for 2 years off and on. I've recently been hitting the books harder and studying daily. It makes a huge difference, but its still not the same as being in a classroom. If you have the opportunity to be in a classroom environment, do it. You learn to much in just a few months.
