Last census in 2005 claimed the Niue population was at 1700 but that was unreliable because it was during a period of cyclone rebuilding when Niue had a large number of contractors ashore. The statistics department also count people who have left recently many of whom don't return. There is a tendan…cy to over estimate the population for aid purposes.. An honest concensus by business leaders estimates the current population at between 1000 and 1100, about 100 being non Niuean (MORE)
Like all Polynesian people, niueans love to celebrate. A major event for teenage boys is their "haircutting ceremony". Many boys keep a long tail of hair since childhood and this is ritually removed at a gathering held at the boys home, usually on a Saturday. Guests involved to the feast contrib…ute considerable amounts of food and money to a fund that goes to the boy after expenses are paid. The pastor and close family members cut locks of hair that have been tied with ribbon, and everyone sits down at the following feast. (MORE)

This question is really rather an opinion, but since I have traveled to every single country in Europe, and 37 other countries in other countries, I would say that the most romantic countries for a boy and a girl would be Italy, Greece, or France.

The final dispute was between the US and Great Britain, which divided the area in 1846. Four nations claimed Oregon Country at one time: Spain, Russia, Britain, and the United States. Spain dropped out of America with the Florida Treaty of 1819 and Russia dropped out with the treaties of 1824 and… 1825. Britain controlled the portion north of the Columbia River. By 1846, about 5,000 Americans settled south of the Columbia River. The British had a lesser population but it did not want to give up its claims to the Columbia River. The disputed territory in Oregon Country became an issue in the election of 1844. (MORE)

Welfare is in Sweden.Sweden has always been a solid market economy. Swedish prosperity has been redistributed among the population to a greater degree than in perhaps any other country. "From each according to ability, to each according to needs" - that was the radical basic doctrine of a welfare st…ate in which all inhabitants would always be guaranteed basic economic security in all stages of life. This welfare state, known in Sweden as the "home of the people," was a unique experiment in social engineering that has attracted great attention among political scientists and politicians worldwide. The question as posed is nonsensical. The modern definition of a country means that it has self-determination. If it is self-determined, then it is not controlled by outside powers, thus negating the possibility of it being controlled by another country. If the question is asking, "Where is colon…ization still present?" or "What countries control territories dominated by a different ethnic group than those in the central territories?" or "What countries still maintain possessions at a far distance from their core regions?" the answer is relatively easy: At this point in time, the United States, United Kingdom, France, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand control a number of such regions across the world. The United States controls inter alia, Hawaii, the North Marianas Islands, Guam, and Midway Island. The United Kingdom controls inter alia, the Falkland Islands, Pitcairn Island, St. Helena, Gibraltar, and and the British Indian Ocean Territory. France controls inter alia, French Guiana, Réunion, Wallis and Futuna, and French Polynesia. Spain controls inter alia, Ceuta & Melilla and the Canary Islands. Portugal controls Madeira. Morocco controls Western Sahara. Japan controls inter alia, the Ryukyu and Sengaku Island Chains. Australia controls inter alia, Christmas Island. New Zealand controls inter alia, the Cook Islands and Niue. If the question is asking, "What locations are trying to assert independence but are forcibly being repressed by another power?" the list changes and becomes more nebulous. Of the locations listed above, the only one with a large contingent of residents unhappy with the foreign occupation is Western Sahara. Other repressed regions include inter alia Palestine (by Israel), Aceh (by Indonesia), Chechnya (by Russia), Abkhazia (by Georgia), and Somaliland (by Somalia). (MORE)

10.7% (2006) I don't know where this 10% came from. If it came from the Niue Statistics department then it probably measures the amount of working age people that don't work for the government in which case it is an abomination. There is no real unemployment in Niue. Subsistence agriculture and fi…shing are gainfully undertaken by a very small percentage of those not employed by the government or private sector. In a population of 1200 there wouldn't be 1% who don't partake in any of these forms of employment. (MORE)
