∙ 13y agoThe movie exists, so, yes, of course it's real. Is it based on a true story? No. It's fiction (an imaginary story). It's based on a Spanish movie called REC (2007).
The first answer given to this question ("i thinks so if its not then the girl is a really good actress") seems to indicate that some people believe that the movie was a documentary, filming real events that were actually happening. It's not. It's just filmed in a realistic style, so it looks like a home movie or news footage. There are a lot of movies filmed in that same style: The Blair Witch Project, Paranormal Activity, and Mulberry Street, just to name a few.
REC and Quarantine, like The Blair Witch Project, Paranormal Activity, Mulberry Street and other movies like them, had a script and a set like any other movie. All the characters are just actors.
The bottom line is, MOVIES AREN'T REAL. That's just not how movies work. Moviemakers don't walk around all day with cameras and just conveniently happen to accidentally film a complete story with a beginning, middle, and end. Someone writes an imaginary story in the form of a screenplay (or, someone writes a novel, and then someone writes a screenplay based on it), and then they design a set, hire some actors, and act the whole story out in front of a bunch of cameras, scene by scene (they don't even film the scenes in the right order! Often, they film the ending first, and the beginning last). Then later they edit the pieces together into a coherent story, and add in any special effects that are needed.
NONE of it is real...unless the movie is specifically labelled a "documentary."
No movie has ever depicted an actual death on screen. It's all fake.
