What would you like to do?
Is Texas a state were you have to pay all your child support due or can you make payment arrangements to get your passport back?
If the father of a child gets married and owes back child support can the new spouse be obligated to pay his back child support in the state of Texas?
Usually no, but unfortunalty some states consider a husband and wife equally responsible for each others mistakes. Find out if Texas is one of them. I forget the technical nam…e of it, sorry.
Retroactive is 5 years. Arrears, there is none under federal law, but the obligee must maintain the claim.
If child support hasn't been ordered and the child is now 14 how far back can the courts go to make you pay back child support in Texas.?
Five years, unless the mother was on welfare. see link
If over $5000, but it also depends on whether the court of jurisdiction had the ability to enter it into state computer records at the time.
The AG will handle that.
They just recently took my tax refund from me due to i owe back child support but i pay monthly and havent missed a payment. wondering why they did that?
You need to contact the agency that seized you refund. In most states, this is called child support enforcement or something similar. You need to review your account and c…onfirm that there are no mistakes in their records. If they've gone far enough to seize a tax refund, it is likely that your driver's license may also be suspended, and/or your wages could be garnished.
Until they and the interest penalties are paid.
That should be in the paperwork that was included in the order. In any case, DO NOT PAY the other parent directly - send your payments to the court or the State Disbursement U…nit.
I suggest that you contact your State's child support agency. When you get an interview with them, bring all the papers relating to your child support: birth certificates, a…cknowledgments of paternity, court orders, payment records, etc. Be polite but persistent. Good luck!
Can your ex spouse sue you for child support after your son turns 18 and has graduated from highschool All child support payments have been made and there is no back child support due?
Your ex might be looking for support during college. In some States, parental responsibility extends beyond age 18, even if the child is no longer in school. Also, support oft…en continues into adulthood for severely disabled children.
To my knowledge, there is no prohibition on collection of child support by more than one State as long as the total amount collected doesn't exceed the amount due (including a…rrearages, penalties and interest). Each State must have an appeals process for resolving disputes about the amount collected; however, the time to file such appeal is usually fairly short.
I'm not sure. In Texas they definitely revoke licenses due to back child support, and in most of the USA they prevent you from getting your passport, but I couldn't find a sou…rce that would specify that it's the same in Texas.
You can't fully relinquish your rights until that back child support is paid. So you have to either pay it first or the custodial parent voluntarily waives it.
Absolutely. If they did not it would be common for noncustodial parents to slack off and not pay at all. It is not fair to the child.
yes. your obligated to pay support until your financial obligation is met in full regardless of how old the child is. I know people with children in their mid-20s still paying… the other parent child support that is in arrears
