Whales looks like fishes. They can swim in water like them but they are not fish as they respire with lugs, have four chambered heart, diaphragm, mammary gland, hairs, etc. Whales are viviparous like any other mammal.

∙ 13y agoNo, whales are mammals, like dolphins. An easy way to tell is if something swims with it's tail moving side to side, it is a fish. If the tail moves up and down, it is a mammal.
Edit by Afewmangos: Also whales are not fish because since they are mammals, they breathe air from blowholes on the top of their body while fish breathe in the water through gills in their sides.
Also mammals nurse their offspring and instead of birthing "eggs/roe" like a fish, they (mammals) give birth to live minature models of the parents.
