A fire is the transformation of chemical energy into thermal energy. The fire gives off thermal energy in the following ways:

  1. Convection - it heats the air which rises
  2. Radiation - it produces infra red radiation which heats the objects round it
  3. Conduction - Things in or near the fire are heated and this thermal energy can be conducted into parts of these objects not in/near the fire.
