The saguaro cactus [Carnegiea gigantea] has a towering, treelike look to it. It grows quite tall, to an adult height of 40+ feet/12+ meters. It looks like thick green columns. The older it gets, the more it has a chance of branching, flowering, and fruiting. In fact, a saguaro cactus that has branching arms is some 40+ years old. The same also is true of the saguaro that brings forth its large, pale bat blossoms. The same likewise is true of the saguaro that brings forth its large, edible, dark plum style fruits. But these achievements aren't those of old age. Given a chance, a saguaro may live 150+ years.

The Lemaireocereus chichipe cactus is considered a saguaro lookalike.

Specifically, it grows tall. But its maximum height is only about one-third of the mature saguaro cactus (Carnegiea gigantea). Like the saguaro, it sports branches and flowers. It also has an edible fruit that is sold in Mexican markets in July.

Its common names are chichibe, chichipe, and chichituna. It is found in thorn scrub forests of Puebla and Oaxaca.
