Generally the answer is yes.

Athletes for example tend to have slower heart rates than normal, and normal folks have slower heart rates than us old goats.

There is such a thing as a heart rate that is too low. If your heart rate is less than 50 or 60 beats per minute, and you are not a really fit, young, athlete, I think it would be wise to check with your physician.

yes, normal is about 60-80 per minute in adults. Atheletes who are super fit have a heart range below 60, 28 being the lowest ever recorded. if you have an extremely low heart rate and are not super fit, you should go to a doctor as you may be very ill.

Depends, guys hearts normally beat faster then girls.

Ex:

I'm 14 and are very athletic (I dance, play soccer, and exercise daily) and my normal resting rate is between 80-100 and the highest resting was 130. Exercising is from 110-200 (I've gone to 210 before but that was after an hour exercise and ten minute run after that. (The norm. is 70-100) (Ex: right now it's (by it's i mean bpm/heart rate) about 90-96) To some people 90 is really high but not others. Its good as long as your healthy and not to fast!

It all depends on what you are doing at the time. You want your heart rate to be fast enough so you will get oxygen and nutrients to the cells as they need them. A fast rate while resting is not a good sign.

A low heart rate means it is pumping slower and more efficient. If a clock is built with a given amount of ticks, isn't it better if it ticks slow?

yes you do, when you run your heart rate speeds up so when u walk and catch your breath, after a period of time you heart rate will slow.

Yes but it depends. In a typical patient the heart rate should be between 60-100. However if you're an avid athlete then you'll naturally have a lower heart rate because of conditioning.
