Although less well known, the MPW or Master of Professional Writing degree is a terminal master's degree just like the MFA in Creative Writing or Screenwriting. The MPW's versatility lies in it's interdisciplinary nature. While an MFA student might have less latitude in selecting courses, the MPW will allow courses in playwriting, poetry, screenwriting, editing, non-fiction, technical writing, business writing, copy writing, etc. The MPW will still allow you to select a concentration, however you will be encouraged to diversify your remaining classes.

I hope this helps.

How many credits do you need for a MFA degree?

It would take approximately 33 credits. Not true. The Standards and Guidelines for the College Art Association (CAA), the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), and the vast majority of institutions in higher education in the United States state that an MFA degree contains a minimum of 60 credits. You can get an MFA that consists of fewer credits from some universities, usually outside the US or non-accredited. If you want to teach, then an MFA degree of fewer than 60 credits might not be accepted by a US institution.
