While burnt toast doesn't compare in taste to golden brown and delicious toast fresh from the toaster, it will not kill you.

Bread and most organic matter on earth is composed of carbon atoms. When you burn carbon based products they go through a chemical reaction that turns them into carbon, which is the burnt black stuff. While it doesn't have a pleasant taste to most people, therefore most people don't eat it, I don't see any foreseeable reason why it would be any worse for you than charbroiled meat products.

In Emergency Rooms across the world they give patients activated charcoal to patients that have overdosed and for other reasons. So, charcoal itself isn't necessarily harmful to you.

In all honesty, you could be allergic to the wheat, and the burnt charred stuff on your toast would still have the wheat in it and therefore be harmful to you. But normally burnt toast would be considered ok to eat, although, not very palatable. Therefor not advised unless you like that sort of thing.

It can lead to cancer in the long run.

Burnt toast forms the same substance, acrylamide which is a known health hazard and possibly carcinogenic thought to be especially so to the large bowel, bladder and kidney. In March 2010 The European Chemical Agency added acrylamide to the list of substance of very high concern.

Yes, actually. The nutrients that have been burnt inside of the bread become most potent when heated to a high enough temperature, causing the minerals to become not only visible, but tasteable as well.
