It's expensive at the start, because of the dam and the turbines. It's also expensive in that it floods river valleys and damages the natural habitat. Perhaps farms and villages have to be moved.

Once it is set up, the only cost is maintenance, and it produces clean green electricity as long as the water keeps flowing. Global warming, of course, may alter the amount of water!
