(Pretend this is September 2013, and the iPhone 5s was just released. Then it'll make sense.) Let's start off with the basics. You're obviously now able to use your fingerprint as a password for your phone. Everybody knows that. But, you're also capable of adding up to 5 fingerprints, which can be read in any orientation (You can turn your finger and it'll still read it, unlike the Galaxy S5, which comes out later in 2014) and you can use your fingerprint to approve purchases from the iTunes and Apple Stores. Next, if you look more towards the chip, there is a brand new Apple A7 ARM Cortex 64 Bit Architecture CPU rocking inside this phone, along with the M7 motion co-processor for battery consumption management, and to handle other tasks specific to the Accelerometer, and Gyroscopic sensors. If you're not a nerd like me, this basically means that all your applications and daily use of your phone will run smoother faster, your phone will run cooler, and the battery will last much longer. Note that this is the only phone with a 64-bit architecture, and because of this the phone will be much more current, and still considered to be a fast phone, even maybe 5 years into owning it. Also, if you look at the camera, Apple has added a dual-led camera flash setup, allowing for more natural light when you use the flash. Along with dark situations, apple has unlike most other manufacturers, increased the size of the Aperture, allowing for better low light and color performance. There are 5 seperate focus pixels, and this allows the phone to focus quickly, accurately, and take pretty darn good photos. Oh, and it can take Slow-Motion at 120 fps, which is 4x slower than normal video. This phone contains the same LCD light panel display as the iPhone 5, so all of your text, movies, photos and videos will be just as crisp.

No. Considering Apple does not make iPhones that specailize in any one task, every iPhone each year generally outdoes the other, thus the older phone model becomes cheaper.
