Better than what? You need to clarify. Still, a doctorate in psychology (PsyD) is a good fit particular to this profession. This is not to say there are not other good fits. Some might feel a doctorate in education EdD would be a good fit .
Typically, the minimum educational requirement for counselors within this area is a master's degree with a doctorate preferred.
Most mental health therapists have either a master's or a doctorate degree in counseling or psychology. Clinical social workers also practice therapy with a master's or doctorate. Check with your state for licensing requirements as they can very greatly from state to state.

There are many different post-bachelor degrees in this field. It seems that if you get your master's, you can go into counseling. You will have more freedom than a bachelor's, but not as much freedom or monetary income as a doctorate. Options increase in other fields as well. Industrial/organizational psychology, health psychology and sport psychology to name a few. The degree also applies to other jobs that would be good for psych majors such as criminal justice or marketing, and increases chances of getting a job in a related field as opposed to a bachelor's. If you do want to go into counseling, there are many certificates one can get to go alongside a master's for specific areas of counseling, like specializing in patients with drug addiction issues, or working with children. Master's in the fields of social work and education are also work looking into if one wants to persue counseling as a career.
Trick question?? You must attain your Master's before you get your Doctorate. Thus, in the pursuit of a Doctorate, everyone obtains their Master's. If you plan on stopping after your Master's, do not go into a Doctoral program - go to a Master's only program (social work). A Doctoral program is not meant to end after the Master's, so you likely would be ill-prepared.
This is a graduate degree that one receives after first completing an undergraduate program, usually majoring in psychology. Having received the Psychology degree, you can then go on for the Master's degree, either in Counseling or Counseling Psychology. It generally takes two years to receive the Master's, during which time you will be probably be expected to work in an internship at a social service agency. There are a number of good schools offering the Master's and also the PhD. I enclose a link to a reputable list of accredited programs in the US.
It depends on the specialty (behavioral science, counseling, school psychologist, etc.)
There are some schools that offer a master's degree in clinical psychology, however they a rare. Most all licensed clinical psychologists have a doctorate.
You can obtain a degree in psychology at all levels to include associate, bachelor, master's, and doctorate degrees. The lower the degree, the less opportunity for jobs within psychology. When thinking about careers within the field of psychology, you should think about obtaining the minimum of a master's degree.

While those with an undergraduate degree in psychology do not have all of the job options available as those master's or doctorate in psychology, there are many entry-level jobs for college graduates with a bachelor's degree.
No it is not. The associate and bachelor's degree are undergraduate degrees. The master's and doctorate degrees are graduate degrees.
