"why would you opt for one over the other if not for energy efficiency or cost?" * Availability - Some areas do not have Natural Gas service. * Convince - no worry about delivery schedule with Natural Gas. * Space - that tank takes up room you may not want to give up. * Safety - May or may not be true, but many would see that big old tank as dangerous. * Independence - When they surround you compound and cut off the lights at least you still have your LPG (OK, that ones a bit of a stretch but I'm trying to cover all cases).
In boilers, economizers are heat exchange devices that heat fluids, usually water, up to but not normally beyond the boiling point of that fluid. Economizers are so named because they can make use of the enthalpy in fluid streams that are hot, but not hot enough to be used in a boiler, thereby recovering more useful enthalpy and improving the boiler's efficiency. They are a device fitted to a boiler which saves energy by using the exhaust gases from the boiler to preheat the cold water used to fill it (the feed water).

everything except the boiler, boiler auxiliaries ,turbine, turbine auxiliaries is considered in balance of plant or BOP. Ex :- cooling tower , water generation plant, fuel oil system, coal handling system
Economizers (US), or economizers(UK/international), are mechanical devices intended to reduce energy consumption, or to perform another useful function such as preheating a fluid. The term economizer is used for other purposes as well. Boiler, power plant, and heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) uses are discussed in this article. In simple terms, an economizer is a heat exchanger.
Many businesses are considered to be in the industrial services sector, such as vacuuming, hydro jetting, blasting and boiler cleaning firms. Other examples of industrial services include chemical cleaning, welding and pipe beveling.
boiler efficiency is how much water is converting to steam.
Boiler efficiency is calculated by determining the steam value per hour and dividing it by the amount of fuel which is consumed per hour. By doing this one can determine the efficiency of a boiler.
suppose if its a 90 percent efficiency boiler and what would be the natural gas consumption a day?
combi
we can increase boiler efficiency by recovering the heat which is being carried by flue gases.by incorporating different things like Economizer, Air pre-heater , Super-heater and feed-water heater, we can there ll be notable increase in efficiency of boiler.

The economizer is used to raise feedwater temperature up to nearly the temperature of the boiler to avoid thermal shock and improve the boiler's efficiency. Every 11 degrees Fahrenheit increase in feedwater temperature yields a 1% increase in boiler efficiency.

if you burn natural gas in a boiler it is useful or harmful
An economizer is used to heat boiler feedwater up closer to the temperature of the boiler water, using heat from the boiler exhaust gases, heat that would otherwise be wasted. The main reason is to improve the efficiency of the boiler. For every 44 degree F drop in exhaust gas temp. there is an 11 F rise in feedwater temperature and a 1% gain in boiler efficiency.
Greatest efficiency at that temperature.
