Is it common for a victim to not take other people's suggestions because they feel people aren't being respectful?

I think so. I went through that. People told me what to do, how to think and feel. I already felt suffocated by him and even though they were trying to help I felt stifled by them as well. People need to respect your feelings and thoughts even if they do not agree with them or understand them. You have been told indirectly and or directly by an abuser on how to feel and act now the last thing you need is others to force their opinions down your throat. I find lately, I have been keeping to myself because of others telling me how to act and feel. They do not give me credit that I dumped him and that I have no contact with him, but when they ask me about him and I reply with the truth on how I feel I am ridiculed by comments such as hes a loser forget him. I even had one friend who was seeing a married man for two years and who i listened to her sob about him for another year after they split up she tells me forget him and dismisses how i feel even though i have only been away from this man for a month! Trust your own instincts and judgment. You have the answers you need and you can reach out agencies and friends when you want. Im sure they are worried about your safety and they just don't know how to approach it. Which is correct because you are in an unsafe situation but only you can decide what you want to do.
