What is the difference between computer science and computer hardware?

Computer science is the study of computers (particularly software). Computer hardware is the physical parts of a computer. Hardware may include a screen, a hard drive, a mouse, a keyboard, RAM, etc. Basically, computer science is something people study, and computer hardware is what a computer is physically made out of.

Is computer science technology and computer engineering the same?

Not exactly. Although they are very similar, computer science and computer engineering are slightly different. Computer science tends to focus on software and programming. Computer engineering focuses more on hardware, like computer chips and hard drives. There is a bit of overlap though in that computer engineers may do some programming and computer science specialists may occasionally deal with hardware.

This is usually a degree where science is applied to everyday life (thus the name!). it's usually a degree where the person takes hard to understand concepts and theory's and uses them at a useful level. While i don't think there is a degree specifically in applied science, degrees like engineering and some physics are examples of applied science.

How good is Purdue university West Lafayette campus for doing BS in computer science?

I am in 'Computer Information Technology' at Purdue which is somewhat similar to Computer Science. 'Computer Science', as I have heard, is a very difficult major at Purdue. There are many students, including some of my friends, who have switched from Computer Science to Computer Information Technology because they weren't able to handle it. But if you think that you can work hard and you can pull off, then there's a very good scope in Computer Science and especially from Purdue. They have a very good Computer Science program with almost full placements. I would say go for it and pursue Computer Science; you can always switch to Computer Information Technology or some other major if you find it very difficult in later stages.
