Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation 393.82 states that "each bus, truck and truck-tractor must be equipped with a speedometer indicating speed in miles per hour and/or kilometers per hour. The speedometer must be accurate to within plus or minus 8 km.hr (5 mph) at a speed of 80 km/hr (50 mph)."
I can't answer for all states, but as far as I know, all vehicles have to have speedometers. If by commercial vehicle you are referring to something requiring a Commercial drivers license, then yes, it has to have a speedometer.
I am from Canada, and law here for commercial vehicles states that if it had it when it left the factory, it must be present and in working order. This would include the speedometer. If your vehicle had a speedometer when it was new, I am assuming U.S. law requires that it be there and operational the same as in Canada.
there is actually no law stating the speedo has to be working
it also was never covered in a vehicle inspection
By yourself it is illegal. Just like your permit when you started driving a car you have to have a properly licensed driver with you.
No.
no
DWI.
Yes, someone with diabetes can indeed operate a commercial motor vehicle in Texas as long as they are healthy enough. There are other options other than insulin.
The VSS sensor is the vehicle speed sensor and it is located in the transmission. The purpose of it is to operate the speedometer and abs system.
It is illegal on all 50 states.
No. To be exempt from CMV requirements and regulations, the vehicle must be registered as a recreational vehicle.
CDL stands for Commercial Drivers Licence. It's the licence you must hold to operate a CMV. CMV stands for Commercial Motor Vehicle, and is the vehicle itself.
You would need a commercial vehicle policy.
If you operate a vehicle requiring a CDL, if you operate a Commercial Motor Vehicle of 10,001 - 26,000 lbs. GVWR across state lanes, or if you operate a vehicle which would normally require a CDL, but is operated under an exemption (farm vehicles, emergency vehicles, RVs).
Good question. BUT in most states it is illegal to change the odometer on a motor vehicle.
