It's a felony.
While I actually DO NOT know, I find it to seem highly unlikely to be a felony or a misdemeanor in ANY state because it is an entirely CIVIL matter under contract law; in other words WHERE IS THE CRIME? (failure to fulfill a contract obligation?)
then they take your car and repo it.
NO THIS IS ILLEGAL! They cannot go inside your house, garage, or locked private property
It is illegal ALL day long and in EVERY state to do so. DONT DO IT. "EVERY" state includes CA and FL. If your auto is "repoed" then in most states the agent has to report to the local authorities. When this is done they have a record that it is in the agents' or lenders' possession. if you still have keys and take it, it is auto theft. It is only illegal if you get caught trespassing something repo man do everyday. It is not auto theft!!!it is your car !!!Having said that don't do it!!!!It is not worth it!!
Crossing state lines can be illegal if the other parent doesn't know or give permission for the child to leave the state.
You can take possession of it for an unpaid mechanic's lien, yes.
Yes, a repo is a repo whether you give it up or they take it.
1)he will take the car you left if that is the car to be repoed. 2)If you are traveling in the car to be repoed he will wait for you to return and repo it after you get back.
No
A long time if you hide it well!
Repossession laws vary from state to state. Typically, if the vehicle is behind (or in) a locked enclosure, they cannot enter and take it.
Yes, until the repo order is canceled by the owner.
A repo man is not allowed to move a vehicle or open gate or anything to get what he wants. If the garage dor was open it would be a different story. depending on the state a repo man can open a garage door to get collateral as long as he does not committ another crim in the process! i know Ohio, Indiana, and Tennessee you can for sure.... Michigan i think it depends on how the loan was writen! In NJ, they cannot. If the car is in sight and where they can tow it, that is, without damage to the property. They cannot sneak around the property looking for the vehicle.
