However, if your intended use is personal, non profit and will not be confused as being officially recognized by the original creator, you probably wont get in trouble, they will have the right to tell you to remove your work from public viewing though.

IMSLP.org has thousands of free, legal, downloadable piano pieces. Of course everything there is public domain and over 80 years old, but again, free and legal.
