Yes it is possible. For adults with this disorder, one of the hallmarks is that they tend to be very bright. A few clues are if you are "scattered" in your thinking, meaning that you jump from subject to subject in conversations without warning, or are easily distracted, and have difficulty "staying on point", then it might be worthwhile to see if medication is one of your options.
Frequently the problem resolves itself with maturity of the body, but there are many people out here who have varying degrees of the disorder. For some people, training in mental discipline is a must. List making and crossing off the list daily is an excellent tool for making headway with everyday tasks.
If medication is not your preference, do consider finding out if a doctor considers you ADHD. The results can give you insight into what your "issues" might be and how to deal with them effectively in the light of the disorder. If you know what the disorder is, you can develop strategies to effectively combat the effects of disorder. Depending on the severity, medication and training can be very effective for advancing socially.
Of course, you might be just a brilliant person and your councilor simply does not have the mental capacity to keep up with your lightening conversations. But frankly...it couldn't hurt to actually find out. It's a disorder, not a disease.
