Is Guyana a dangerous travel destination?

Guyana is a Country were you should just exercise COMMON SENSE. There is petty street crimes in some cities, but other than that you will be safe, and if you still feel worried, try and travel with a native escort.

Like stated above, Guyana is notorious for little street crimes, be careful and like I said use common sense.

If you come off the plane and you look like a tourist your more likely to get followed anywhere you go. Its safe once your keen about your surroundings. Its changed a lot as well but I think its safer than some other places and quite beautiful too.

First, there is beauty in every country, and Guyana has some very beautiful scenery. But asking whether Guyana is a beautiful country requires an opinion that most of us cannot give. I would say that many Guyanese believe their country is beautiful, especially given its reputation as a wonderful place for observing nature (Birdwatching especially); Guyana has many other natural resources, including a rainforest.

But there is another side to Guyana, as there is to many countries, a side with great poverty, drugs, and crime. If you were to ask a person living in dire poverty whether Guyana is beautiful, that person might disagree. Statistics show that Guyana is one of the poorest countries in the Americas. It also struggles with ethnic tensions, drug smuggling, a high murder rate, and years of government corruption. So while parts of Guyana may indeed be safe, other parts are not. However, it should be said that the current political leaders are making an effort to improve the quality of life, and many citizens are hopeful that there will be some progress in the near future.
