Yes, scratches count as self harming. Self harming can be anything when causing damage to your body (whether it hurts or not ).

If You mean scratch, as in when you are itchy, then no that is not self harming, but I advise that you do not do this. Scratching will only make the skin irritated . CREAM is the solution.

All methods of self harm are cutting, scratching, interference with the healing of wounds, hitting or bruising, burning, hair pulling, biting, intentional bone breaking, pinching, starving yourself, purging, salt and ice, overdose, drug abuse, choking, head banging, lip mutilation, puncturing, nail mutilation, poisoning, sanding off skin, tongue biting, intentional spraining, excessive exercise, body piercing(with the intent to feel pain), tattoos(with intent to feel pain) , stapling, self cannibalism ,picking at skin, irritating wounds, carving into the skin, drawing blood, intentionally placing yourself in painful situations, walking through thorns, suffocation, cutting off blood to extremities, snapping rubber bands on skin, swallowing sharp objects, intentionally setting off a serious allergic reaction, putting foreign objects into vagina and anus, ice burning, intentional hypothermia, intentional "accidents", damaging ears, stabbing, digging into skin with nails, chemical burning, injecting harmful substances into veins, friction burns, whipping, private parts mutilation, slapping, intentionally being raped, punching, sewing skin, and anything else intended to induce pain.

Maybe you wouldn't call it 'cutting' yourself due to the actual action but is is a form of Self Harm. Self harm can be anything from taking overdoses to hitting yourself. It also includes burning , cutting and many other things (although you may already know this!) Hope this helps?

Yes it is. It's self mutilation and it's a psychological disorder. People that scratch or cut themselves do so because they just want to feel emotions (even pain) because their daily lives are usually depressed and they are void of feeling. There are many reasons why the person can feel like this. It could be caused by a poor environment growing up and it's human to put a wall up to protect oneself. They may find it difficult to get along with their peers at school or have been bullied and loathe themselves for not doing more about it (most times they simply can't and shouldn't feel this way.) This problem usually starts sometime in childhood. If the problem doesn't go away then the wall just gets thicker and higher until the person can become void of feelings or trust no one. They find little enjoyment in life and don't expect much for themselves. By cutting or scratching it hurts and this gives a feeling of euphoria to the person doing it. In other words, a "high." Counseling is needed and one can get over it. _____________________ While I do agree with most of what was said I don't agree that cutting is always unhealthy. It should be noted that cutting can be considered a sign of communication and even art. Also, it is not necissarily an only option to emotion, but more generally an option to control the amount of emotional pain in one's life. If you, hypothetically, had a close friend or relative pass away and you just cannot decipher all the emotions and you can't wade through the emotional pain then cutting is an easy fix to center yourself and concentrate on that one pain. In many cultures (and western subcultures) cutting can mean many different things from coming of age to significant events in one's life. If you are however cutting your wrists you need to cease because it is easy to cut too deep and have a serious problem on your hands. If your child is cutting take it as a sign of communication and talk with them about it. Don't get upset because that will only worsen the situation and don't immediately have them committed because that will only cause depression. Just talk to them and try to find out what the underlying issues are.
