I cannot answer for everyone, but it helps with my depression. I was diagnosed with severe clinical depression. In an effort to avoid hospitalization, I was prescribed Effexor XR for the depression and Lunesta for the related insomnia. After two days the Lunesta did not work and the antidepressant was not helping either. My psychiatrist increased the Effexor and put me on Seroquel (as a "mood stablizer"), it has been the perfect conbination. I currently take 225mg of Effexor XR & 300mg of Seroquel.

Not technically. Seroquel (quetiapine) is an atypical antipsychotic used to treat schizophrenia and Bipolar disorder.

It acts as a serotonin, dopamine, and adrenergic receptor antagonist, meaning that the drug will compete with endogenous neurotransmitters for binding sites. However, some competition is for autoreceptors on the presynaptic terminal which could lead to an increase in release of serotonin and norepinephrine, depending on the type of autoreceptor. At this juncture, it is not clear how synaptic levels of serotonin and norepinephrine are affected when compared to baseline. Additionally, quetiapine is converted into a psychoactive metabolite, norquetiapine. This metabolite acts as a strong norepinephrine and serotonin reuptake inhibitor. These properties are associated with antidepressant effects.

For the treatment of major depressive disorder, seroquel could potentially be used, but would not be indicated or recommended as a first line of treatment.

What is Celexa and seroquel in a combination used to treat?

celexa and seroquel are probably treated for depression and insomnia. Celexa is aused with many people with PTSD, used to help with anxiety and depression, and if your doctor feels the need to not give you ambien for whatever reason, he might proscribe trazadone or seroquel for sleep. That's what i got it for :) although i find celexa doesnt really work for me
