Being that the US Army is a land based combat element there is no need for swimming in Basic Combat Training, with the Marines they have to go through swim training mainly in part because they are Department of the Navy and they can be stationed on a ship with there counterparts in the Navy.

There is no actual swimming which is administered as part of Basic Combat Training/One Station Unit Training. There are pools on these posts, which is may be possible to use when one has an on-post pass, but that's on one's own time.

After graduation from infantry OSUT is when you'll be required to take your swim tests. When you report to your unit, you'll have to take what's called the CWST, which is basically just to demonstrate that you can swim in your uniform, boots, and web gear.
