Yes, midazolam, a short acting benzo commonly known as Versed, is a Schedule IV controlled drug. It is used mainly to knock people out before surgery via intravenous injection, but also as a last result for people with insomnia where traditional sleep aids, such as ambien, lunesta, temazepam, etc. aren't effective. Hope this helps.

Yes. In the USA it is a Schedule IV Controlled Substance. It is illegal to possess without a prescription. Do not share this medicine with anyone, your dose may be therapeutic, but to someone else, it could be an overdose.

In my educated opinion, because of temazepam's low overdose threshold (taking just 2x the recommended dose can kill you; 60mg might be in the acceptable range for the benzodiazepine tolerant patient, but 120mg could be a fatal overdose) it should be a Schedule II Controlled Substance with a black box warning. I don't understand why it is so loosely monitored.

Can pitbulls eat a Valium?

Diazepam is a sedative and depresses the brain. Exactly how diazepam works is uncertain but it is thought to reduce serotonin levels and reduce acetylcholine levels. Diazepam is a controlled substance Accordingly, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Drug Enforcement Agency of the United States (and similar regulatory agencies in other countries) strictly control these drugs. Controlled drugs are classified into categories ("schedules") based on abuse potential. These drugs require prescription by a veterinarian with an appropriate DEA license. This drug is not approved for use in animals by the Food and Drug Administration but it is prescribed legally by veterinarians as an extra-label drug. Diazepam is often used with other drugs to ease an animal in and out of anesthesia. There is no use to feed Valium to a dog at home. This medicine is bad news to dog health when it is given at home.
