No one is really certain what mood The Mona Lisa is in, which is one of the reasons the painting is so famous. The sides of the Mona Lisa's face do not quite match in emotion, which gives her a look of sadness and amusement at the same time. If you examine her features individually, it is amazing how different they each appear.

Looking at the right side of the Mona Lisa's face, she looks crafty and sly, amused and mischeivous.

Looking at her left side, she appears more peaceful and subdued with a hint of tragedy.
